Tennis

For those who like tennis, there is a court in the grounds of the Hotel ("Balcon de Cómpeta”) in Cómpeta. It is available for rent all year round and can be booked through the Hotel reception. Racquets are also available for hire. The Hotel is only a ten minute walk away from the finca.

Walking

The Cómpeta area has become famous for its walking, in part for its sunny climate and in part for the spectacular and very varied landscape. There are walks for everyone regardless of your age or fitness following the unmade roads through the countryside, but once in the mountains, care must be taken as the tracks are steep and narrow, although the views make this well worth while.

There are several guide books which detail some of the walks in the area and it is also possible to hire a guide for the day.

Riding

Heading towards the neighbouring village of Canillas, there are some riding stables where they organise riding treks through the local Sierras. The treks can be for the whole day or for just half a day depending on individual riders experience and are a treat not to be missed. They follow the old mule tracks through the mountains and along the river valleys, passing small villages, some of which have been abandoned. On horseback, you can appreciate to the full the stunning landscape and its ever-changing flora.

For those who wish to improve their horsemanship, individual riding lessons can be arranged.

Casa de La Mina

Die Albergue "Casa de La Mina" ist ein typischer Landgasthof, der mitten im Naturpark "Sierra Almijarra" liegt. Er ist mit dem Auto über eine gut ausgebaute Schotterstraße zu erreichen. Von der Terrasse hat man sensationelle Ausblicke auf die umliegenden Berge bis hinunter zum Mittelmeer.
Zu empfehlen ist die leckere Paella, die hier jeden Sonntag vom Chef zubereitet wird.

Golf

There are now two golf courses in the area, one close to Velez Malaga, only 17km from Cómpeta and the other near Rincon de la Victoria.

Skiing

The Sierra Nevada ski resort is two and a half hours away from Competa.
The world championships in skiing were held here in 1998 so both the runs and the facilities are of an international standard.

There are 45 runs of varying difficulty, 2 aerial ropeways, 12 chair lifts and 7 drag lifts. The height of the runs varies between 3300m and 2100m.

All the necessary skiing equipment can be hired from shops in the resort.
